Kamaldeep Bhui is Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Oxford.
He conducts research at the intersection of eco-social, syndemic, and health and social systems to inform policy and practice, reduce health inequalities and improve outcomes in areas such as persistent mental illness, suicide, and premature mortality from chronic conditions. His work also seeks to advance research methods and foster interdisciplinary collaboration.
Bringing together insights from environmental, social, cultural, psychological, and biological domains, his research explores the complex interplay between mind, brain, body, and society.
His current areas of focus include reducing ethnic inequalities in severe mental illness; adolescent mental health; the impact of adversity, including Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), and biological factors like inflammation on mental illness; the intersections of criminal justice and mental health systems; violence and extremism prevention; and the development of digital tools for mental health prevention and care.
In addition to his primary role, Kamaldeep has several professional commitments, including serving as a Senior Research Fellow at Wadham College, Director of the World Psychiatric Association Collaborating Centre and Co-Director of the Centre for Understanding Personality (CUSP).
