Sylvan Baker is a care experienced researcher, practitioner & Senior Lecturer at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. His work explores how artistic practices, participant collaboration and dialogue can stimulate reflection, and change. He is an Artist Fellow at QMUL & associate artist at the award-winning arts of health project, Performing Medicine.
As Deputy-Principal Investigator Re-star -Regulating Emotion STrengthening Adolescent Resilience project, he supports Neuro-divergent young researchers in the creation of resources to develop neurodivergent sensitive school environments; as Co-Founder of the multi award winning, The Verbatim Formula’, he works with care experienced people to co-facilitate an expert by experience diagnostic on the impacts of the care system.
He began working with People’s Palace Projects (PPP) in 2005, coordinating UK partnerships with AfroReggae in Brazil. This led to his appointment as PPP’s Associate Director and a Practice PhD on that work, completed in 2014. He is currently an Associate Artist with Clod Ensemble’s Performing Medicine programme.
Sylvan has previously taught at Queen Mary University of London, Goldsmiths and Queen’s University Belfast.
