Dr Cristina Harney

Position
Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Cristina Harney is our postdoctoral research fellow on the CREATE project at the University of Leeds. She has a PhD in Music Psychology focusing on developing a music listening intervention for everyday anxiety in young people.

Cristina incorporates her passion for music and art with her research expertise in mental health and wellbeing of young people in Project CREATE, collaborating with colleagues to plan and conduct research for this project.

She is currently working on data analysis of four focus groups, which were conducted with young people, social scientists, clinicians and arts practitioners. The focus groups explored experiences and challenges of using standardised mental health and/or wellbeing measures with young people.

She also works alongside the Project Manager to deliver workshops and build relationships with the young people’s action groups involved in the project.

Within her work, she has investigated the effectiveness of individual and group music listening on the alleviation of anxious symptoms. This explored the social functions of music listening and its role during the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in a number of publications which can be found can be found here and here.

She also co-managed a music and wellbeing platform, Brain Beats, which involved DJing and presenting radio shows related to music and wellbeing.
